Burglar shot dead by Mobile apartment resident; accomplice faces charges, police say
A would-burglar was shot dead by a resident at a Mobile apartment complex Tuesday, Mobile police said Wednesday morning.
Police responded to Ashford Place Apartments on Grelot Road just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on a call of a burglary in progress. Arriving at the scene, officers found a 23-year-old male dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Initial investigation indicates the dead suspect and another suspect, 22-year-old Okoye Jabrayll Day of Mobile, were attempting to break into an apartment when the resident fired at least one shot, killing the first suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Day was taken into custody and charged with 1st-degree burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He remained in Mobile Metro Jail as of Wednesday morning, held without bond pending an initial court appearance.
