Bullet found in Huntsville elementary classroom
A bullet was found in a classroom Monday afternoon at Hampton Cove Elementary.
Huntsville City Schools spokesman Craig Williams confirmed the incident.
The bullet was found on the floor in a fourth-grade classroom as school officials were preparing for dismissal.
According to a message sent to parents, a school resource officer and campus security officer spoke with students in the classroom where the bullet was discovered.
“Any student discovered to be involved in this matter will face serious disciplinary consequences in accordance with the district’s Behavioral Learning Guide (BLG),” the announcement stated.
“We ask families for their continued support in checking their child’s backpack and ensuring students cannot access any items that could present potential safety risks. Additionally, please continue to follow the ‘see something, say something’ protocol to make us aware of any potential issues.”
It’s the latest in several recent incidents involving firearms with the system. Huntsville City Schools has added new sensors to several schools and athletic events since December under a $2.86 million contract with Evolv Technology.
And in three separate incidents in January, students at Mae Jemison High School and Lee High School were found with guns.
