Buffalo Bills place Damien Harris on injured reserve

The Buffalo Bills placed Damien Harris on injured reserve on Friday after the former Alabama running back left the NFL team’s Sunday night game in an ambulance.

The injured-reserve designation means Harris will miss a minimum of four games.

Harris had a neck sprain and had entered the NFL concussion protocol, Buffalo coach Sean McDermott said on Monday, after the running back had been released from the hospital.

The Bills’ practice report this week listed Harris as having a neck injury and a concussion. He did not practice and had been designated as out for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots before being placed on injured reserve.

Tackled by New York Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke on his first carry of Sunday’s game, Harris did not get up after a 1-yard gain in the second quarter, and players from both teams waved urgently for help from the sidelines.

After being attended to, Harris was strapped to a backboard and loaded into an ambulance on the field at Highmark Stadium to be carried to Erie County Medical Center.

In his first season with the Bills, Harris had run for 94 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries and caught two passes for 16 yards before getting hurt.

To take Harris’ place on the active roster, Buffalo signed running back Ty Johnson from its practice squad.

Harris joined New England as a third-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft after leading Alabama in rushing for three straight seasons.

Harris joined the Bills as a free agent after rushing for 2,094 yards and 20 touchdowns on 449 carries and catching 40 passes for 281 yards for the Patriots in the previous four seasons.
