Budget Birmingham movie theater The Edge 12 closes after 13 years on Crestwood Boulevard

The Edge 12, the budget Birmingham movie theater known for its $6 tickets, closed its doors on Sunday, the cinema announced on its website.

It did not give a reason for going out of business.

The theater, owned by Phoenix Theatres, LLC, opened in 2010 at the Eastwood Festival Centre on Crestwood Boulevard. It replaced the former Regal Cinemas’ Festival 12, which closed in 2006. When the ribbon was cut on The Edge 12, it was only the second movie theater operating in Birmingham city limits.

In October 2011, the Birmingham City Council granted The Edge 12 a liquor license, which made the theater only the second first-run theater in Alabama to provide alcoholic beverages.

The Edge 12 said any customers holding gift cards to the theater can email [email protected] for a refund.
