Buddy Guy coming to Alabama on âDamn Right Farewellâ tour
Legendary bluesman Buddy Guy will make a swing through Alabama this fall on his ongoing “Damn Right Farewell” tour.
Guy launched the tour in fall 2022 and has added new dates in the interim. In a February interview with Billboard, he said he’d be turning 87 this July and was beginning to feel the wisdom of older bluesmen who’d told him the time would come. “I can play, but getting from Point A to Point B, the trips that take all day on the bus or the airport and all that … Anybody would say, ‘That’s enough,’” he said.
Guy told Billboard he didn’t anticipate a full retirement and would continue to play major festivals. “But what’s coming up this year is a lot,” he said. “We’re gonna make it to a lot of places we’ll probably never play again.”
According to information released Tuesday, he’ll play the Mobile Saenger Theatre on Wednesday, Oct. 25. That’ll be followed by shows at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre on Thursday, Oct. 26, and Birmingham’s Alabama Theatre on Friday, Oct. 27.
General public ticket sales for the Mobile show start at 10 a.m. Friday, June 23, with prices starting at $45.50 plus fees through Ticketmaster. Ticket sales for the Montgomery show start at the same time through Ticketmaster.
General public ticket sales for the Birmingham show start at 9 a.m. Friday, June 23, through Ticketmaster.
Guy’s most recent release is “The Blues Don’t Lie,” released in September 2022. The album was nominated for a Grammy and featured several special guests of note, including Alabama-born singer-songwriter Jason Isbell, who was featured on the lead single “Gunsmoke Blues.”
