Bud Light executives on leave after backlash of transgender spokesperson, sales plummet
Two Bud Light executives are on a leave of absence after backlash over Anheuser-Busch’s partnership with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney, according to the The Wall Street Journal.
The company, per the report, said the two marketing executives had faced backlash and death threats for working with Mulvaney. CBS News also reports Daniel Blake, Budweiser’s group vice president for marketing and Alissa Heinerscheid, vice president of marketing for Bud Light, have taken leaves of absence.
“Given the circumstances, Alissa has decided to take a leave of absence which we support. Daniel has also decided to take a leave of absence,” a CBS spokesperson confirmed via email.
The decision to go on leave “wasn’t voluntary” on the executives’ parts, the Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
Anheuser-Busch has faced criticism and threats — including a bomb threat – as sales of the product have taken hit.
New York Post reported that sales of Bud Light have dropped by 17 percent, according to industry research data.
