Bucs promote former Midfield/Alabama State standout

The number of Alabama State alumni on NFL active rosters doubled on Thursday. In addition to Houston Texans left guard Tytus Howard, cornerback Keenan Isaac is on a 53-man roster after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed him from their practice squad.

An undrafted rookie who joined the Bucs in May, Isaac has spent this season on Tampa Bay’s practice squad. But he has played in two games as a practice-squad elevation.

Isaac’s regular-season experience has been limited to 22 special-teams plays in a 26-9 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 1 and a 20-6 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Nov. 12.

By signing Isaac to their 53-man roster, the Buccaneers made him eligible to play against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, and this time, he might be needed defense.

Tampa Bay promoted Isaac with its starting cornerbacks dealing with injuries. Auburn alumni Carlton Davis and Jamel Dean left Sunday’s 27-14 loss to the San Francisco 49ers and are on this week’s injury report. Davis has been a limited practice participant this week because of a hip injury, and Dean has not practiced because of foot and ankle injuries.

Before playing at Alabama State, Isaac earned second-team All-State recognition at Midfield High School in 2017.
