Buccaneers vs. Giants predictions, picks and best bets for NFL Week 12

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will try to stay in the NFC South race with a win over the stumbling New York Giants. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. EST Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Both teams need a victory to put an end to recent doldrums. A win is more important for the 4-6 Buccaneers, who are still within range of the division-leading Atlanta Falcons (6-5). Tampa Bay comes into this matchup on a four-game losing streak.

The Giants will be trying to avoid a sixth consecutive loss as Tommy DeVito takes over at quarterback. We deliver winning wagers to consider for the Buccaneers-Giants matchup in NFL Week 12.

Buccaneers vs. Giants predictions and best bets

Tampa Bay should win this game, but the spread seems to be just a tad too large. The Giants are coming off a busy and controversial week and may come out with a strong collective desire to start fresher after a bye week. The Buccaneers also had a Week 10 bye, so this should be a competitive matchup between two teams vying for a seemingly elusive victory.

DeVito, a fan favorite, was named the starter this week before Daniel Jones was released. Before the bye, New York lost by three and five points and can return from the off week ready to be competitive enough to cover the spread. Giants fans want the team to tank for a top draft pick, but that is rarely the mentality inside a locker room.

Neither team is an offensive juggernaut, and the over/under might be surpassed by the Detroit Lions alone in any given week. Yet both defenses are vulnerable in different areas and can be exploited enough to help you cash on the over.

The Giants’ defense ranks 29th against the run and can get sliced up by RB Bucky Irving while RB Rachaad White contributes, too. Those will be the two main producers, although Sean Tucker might also see a few touches.

Irving rushed for 73 yards on only 13 carries against the 49ers before the bye week. He is the most exciting runner on the Tampa Bay roster, as he displays good vision and patience and can accelerate for sizable gainers. This is a good spot for the rookie to hit on a player prop.

Tampa Bay’s pass defense ranks 30th in the NFL, so DeVito could post quality totals in his first start of the 2024 season.

Why Tampa Bay could win as the favorite

WR Mike Evans is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game after missing the last three because of a hamstring injury. His return would provide a significant boost for the Tampa Bay offense. He has caught six TD passes in seven games played this season.

TE Cade Otton has set career highs in catches (49) and receiving yards (456) in 2024. He is doing a good job of stepping forward while the Buccaneers have dealt with injuries at receiver. Former Giants WR Sterling Shepard also will return to MetLife to face his former team.

QB Baker Mayfield has passed for 28 TDs in 13 road starts since 2023, the most road TD passes in the NFL during that span. He passed for two-plus TDs in each of his last three away games.

On defense, DL Calijah Kancey registered a career high tying fourth sack of the season and forced a fumble in Week 10. S Jordan Whitehead logged a career-best 12 tackles.

Why the New York Giants could win as the underdog

DeVito was 3-3 as a starter last season and may spark the offense, even though he is not a big-play passer. He averaged 6.2 yards per attempt last season. DeVito won both of his home starts in 2023.

WR Malik Nabers was dealing with a groin injury late in the week, so be sure to check on his status when wagering on the Giants. WR Wan’Dale Robinson has five-plus catches in seven of his past eight games overall and seven of his last eight home games.

RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. rushed for 103 yards in Week 10 and has three games with 100-plus rushing yards in 2024, most among rookies. He leads all rookies in rushing yards (545).

The Giants lead the NFC with 36 sacks. Dexter Lawrence is third in the NFL with nine sacks. Brian Burns notched his sixth sack of season in Week 10.
