Bruce Pearl gives injury update on Johni Broome following Georgia State win
Auburn captured another blowout win Tuesday night, using a big second half to beat Georgia State 100-59 and improve to 10-1 on the season.
However, the big and unfortunate story of the night for the Tigers was an injury suffered by star center Johni Broome in the first two minutes of the game.
Broome seemed to injure his right arm after battling for a rebound in the first half. He immediately ran off the court holding near his shoulder and didn’t return to the game.
He was on the Auburn bench in the second half with a sling on his right arm. Broome seemed to be in good spirits on the sideline, cheering and joking with teammates.
When speaking to Auburn radio after the game, Bruce Pearl said he “can’t imagine” Broome will play against Purdue.
Pearl started his postgame news conference by addressing Broome’s injury, but didn’t give an exact timeline.
“Obviously, his right shoulder kind of came out. Came right back. He did it a year ago, so he’s had some experience with it,” Pearl said. “We’ll take a look at it tomorrow and tell you more, but we hope he’s going to be okay.”
While Pearl didn’t say whether or not Broome would miss anymore game time, he noted that Chaney Johnson would likely slide into the starting lineup if Broome can’t play.
Johnson had an Auburn career high 26 points against Georgia State, replacing Broome when he left the game in the first half. He would likely play the four with Dylan Cardwell at the five if he were to enter the starting lineup.
