Brother and sister identified as 2 killed in horrific Birmingham crash

A brother and sister have been identified as the two people killed in a horrific crash in Birmingham early Sunday.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the fatality victims as Imani Nashiem Smith, 25, and Mi’Angel Temple Jones, 21.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service and Birmingham police responded at 5:15 a.m. Sunday to the 800 block of Graymont Avenue West on a report of a single-vehicle crash.

The investigation showed the vehicle was traveling south on Arkadelphia Road when it struck a utility pole.

First responders arrived to find Smith and Jones unresponsive. Both were pronounced dead on the scene at 5:58 a.m.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Smith was the driver of the vehicle, and Jones a passenger.

Four other patients – three females and one male – had to be extricated from the vehicle.

One of those victims is in critical condition. Authorities said the other three victims have severe injuries.
