Bronny James joins father LeBron James with Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers selected Southern Cal’s Bronny James with the 55th selection in the 78th NBA Draft on Thursday.

A 6-foot-2 guard, James is the eldest son of Lakers forward LeBron James, a 20-time NBA all-star, four-time NBA champion and four-time NBA Most Valuable Player.

The selection puts Los Angeles on course to put the first father-son combination on the court in NBA history. No father and son even have been in the NBA at the same time previously.

At Southern Cal, Bronny James averaged 4.8 points. 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 25 games in his only season with the Trojans. James’ season was impacted by a cardiac arrest on July 24 as he wasn’t cleared to return until Nov. 30.

The Lakers used their first-round selection on Tennessee forward Dalton Knecht at No. 17.
