Britney Spears releases statement, says she was âback handedâ by Victor Wembanyamaâs security guard
Britney Spears released a statement on social media Thursday, claiming she “back handed” in the face by a security guard for San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama on Wednesday.
She said she has not gotten an apology from Wembanyama, but the singer hopes she will.
Wembanyama said earlier Thursday he believes Spears grabbed him from behind as he was walking into a restaurant at a Las Vegas casino, and that the security detail he was with pushed the pop star away.
In the statement, Spears said she “tapped (Wembanyama) on the shoulder to get his attention” and to congratulate him on his success, before his security nearly knocked her to the ground and knocked her glasses off.
Spears filed a police report with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
“Traumatic experiences are not new to me and I have had my fair share of them,” she wrote. “I was not prepared for what happened to me last night.
“I simply tapped him on the shoulder. His security then back handed me in the face without looking back, in front of a crowd. Nearly knocking me down and causing my glasses off my face.”
Spears called the incident “super embarrassing to share with the world but it’s already out there” and said her security team has never assaulted anyone over the years.
She said she was speaking out because she felt it was “important to share this story and to urge people in the public eye to to set an example and treat all people with respect.”
