Brent Musburger still jokes with Brian Kelly about Katherine Webb, says he deflected from Notre Dame loss

As Brent Musburger sees it, he did Brian Kelly a solid.

It was in 2012 when Kelly, the head at Notre Dame, led his Irish into a slaughter against Alabama in the 2012 BCS national championship game. You don’t remember the score (it was 42-14), and that’s the point.

That’s because most of the college football watching world was talking about Musburger and his comments about Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron’s girlfriend, Katherine Webb.

Musburger, who joined “The Shamrock” podcast this week, mentioned he still brings it up with Brian Kelly.

“Coach Kelly, who I know very well, now down at LSU having left Notre Dame,” he said. “I still tease him when he got blown out by Alabama in the national championship game, I took all the heat off him because I called a beauty queen beautiful. I was the villain that night in the eyes of the media, especially the woke journalists in some of the papers around the country.

“And, I say, ‘Coach, you’d have been under the gun if it wasn’t for me.’ And he laughs. He’s a good old politician. We’ll see what he does.”

If you need the refresher, here you go.

For those of you wondering, McCarron and Webb are now married with three kids.
