Brandon Miller wins NBA award for third month in a row

Just as he was in January and February, Charlotte Hornets forward Brandon Miller is the NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for March, the league announced on Tuesday.

In 14 March games, Miller averaged 18.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists.

That moved Miller’s season averages to 17.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 68 games in the 2023-24 season.

With an average of 2.46 3-point baskets per game, Miller is seeking to join Saddiq Bey and Keegan Murray as the only NBA rookies with a rate of 2.5 3-pointers per game.

With 167 3-pointers, Miller ranks seventh among rookies in NBA history. Murray set the rookie record with 206 3-pointers in the 2022-23 season.

Miller is the third player in Charlotte history to win the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month Award in three consecutive months, joining Raymond Felton in the 2005-06 season and LaMelo Ball in the 2020-21 season.

Miller joined the Hornets from Alabama as the second player picked in 2023 NBA Draft. The player chosen ahead of Miller, center Victor Wembanyama, was the Western Conference Rookie of the Month for March with the San Antonio Spurs for the third time in a row.

Charlotte has seven games left on its 2022-23 schedule, starting against the Portland Trail Blazers at 6 p.m. CDT Wednesday at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
