Brandon Miller set to make his pro debut on Monday

Brandon Miller, the No. 2 choice in the 2023 NBA Draft, is scheduled to make his pro debut on Monday night in the California Classic. His former Alabama teammate Charles Bediako could do the same in the same game.

Miller and the Charlotte Hornets play the San Antonio Spurs at 7 p.m. CDT Monday in the six-team summer session hosted by the Sacramento Kings as a warmup for the NBA 2K24 Summer League, which includes all 30 of the league’s teams and starts on July 7 in Las Vegas. ESPN will televise Monday night’s game.

The Spurs had the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft, but Victor Wembanyama, the player picked before Miller, isn’t on San Antonio’s roster for the California Classic. But Bediako is. He signed with the Spurs as a rookie free agent after being bypassed in the NBA Draft on June 22.

The Hornets also will play the Golden State Warriors at 5 p.m. Wednesday. ESPN2 will televise the game. The Spurs’ other California Classic game comes against the Los Angeles Lakers at 7 p.m. Wednesday. ESPN will televise the game.

The other team participating in the California Classic is the Miami Heat. All the teams except the Lakers have released their rosters for the California Classic, with the Hornets announcing their roster on Friday morning.

The Kings’ roster includes Colby Jones (Mountain Brook) and Keon Ellis (Alabama). Jones was the 34th player picked in this year’s draft. Ellis played in 16 games for Sacramento as a rookie last season, while also appearing in 36 games for the Kings’ NBA G League team in Stockton.

The Warriors’ roster includes Craig Sword (Carver-Montgomery), who has played for the Washington Wizards and in the G League, Poland and Venezuela since completing his college career at Mississippi State in 2016.

The Heat’s roster includes Ja’Von Franklin (Auburn/South Alabama). An undrafted rookie from Georgia Tech, Franklin played at Auburn in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons and at South Alabama in the 2021-22 season.
