Brandon Miller named NABC national freshman of the year

Alabama Crimson Tide freshman forward Brandon Miller was named Tuesday as the national freshman of the year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

Miller was previously named the national freshman of the year by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA), meaning he was viewed by both coaches and media as the best freshman in the country this season.

Miller ranks 50th in Division I in averaging 18.8 points per game. But he shot 8-of-41 in three NCAA tournament games, or 19 percent. According to CBS Sports, he became the first player since at least 1960 to shoot under 20 percent on at least 40 attempts in the tournament.

Although he has yet to officially declare for the 2023 NBA draft in June, Miller is widely expected to enter it. He was projected as the No. 3 overall pick by ESPN earlier this month.
