Brandon Miller earns Associated Press SEC player of the year

A day after earning the SEC coaches’ player of the year award, Alabama forward Brandon Miller won the same honor from the Associated Press.

The star freshman was named both player of the year and newcomer of the year after voting from a panel of 14 regional reporters. He received 12 votes alongside two for Texas A&M guard Wade Taylor.

Miller was also an AP first-team All-SEC pick, appearing on all but one ballot. Taylor and Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe were the only two unanimous first-team All-SEC picks.

He received 11 votes for newcomer of the year, with LSU forward KJ Williams and Arkansas guards Ricky Council IV and Anthony Black each receiving one.

Miller led the SEC in scoring 19.6 points per game.

Texas A&M’s Buzz Williams was named the AP’s SEC coach of the year with eight votes, while Missouri’s Dennis Gates received three and Alabama’s Nate Oats received one.
