Boy injured in unintentional shooting is second juvenile shot in Mobile in 2 days

A boy is recovering after being unintentionally shot by another juvenile on Friday morning in Mobile, according to police.

The Mobile Police Department said in a press release that officers responded to Willow Lane at about 11:45 a.m. and found a boy suffering injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police said they discovered that the victim had been unintentionally shot by another boy who got access to a handgun.

Police did not say how or where the boy got the gun. Police did not release the age of either of the boys.

The victim went to a hospital for treatment.

The shooting is the second in Mobile in two days involving juveniles.

On Thursday, a girl was playing with a gun when another girl in a vehicle was injured by gunfire, police said. The girl who had the weapon was charged with second-degree assault, according to police.

According to Everytown For Gun Safety’s national index, there have been at least seven unintentional shootings by children in Alabama this year, resulting in two deaths.
