Box with small urn, baby clothes turns up on Alabama Gulf Coast

When Alan Nabors spotted the blue box on the sand in Daphne’s May Day Park before fishing, he assumed it was a tackle box.

“I flip it open and I’ve got Snapchat open and everything, open it up and I was like okay it is not” a tackle box, Nabors told WKRG. “Shut that and called the cops.”

Inside was what police called a “bereavement box” — a small urn that police believe may contain the ashes of a baby boy, along with handmade baby clothes, clay footprints and handprints and a hospital bracelet from a hospital in Memphis, Daphne police spokeswoman Heather DeAngelo told the station.

Nabors said he hopes the box’s owner is located.

“It’s not every day you find a tackle-box that has got a baby in it,” he told WKRG. “I hope the parents are found and they can be reconnected.”

Daphne police asked anyone familiar with the box to call them.
