Bowl projections: Will Alabama make the College Football Playoff?
The chaos scenario is here. Alabama football beat No. 1 Georgia in the SEC championship on Saturday to move to 12-1 on the season, 9-0 in conference play.
But still, Alabama might get left out of the College Football Playoff. Florida State beat Louisville in the ACC championship, meaning the selection committee has a tough decision to make.
The choice will be announced at 11:15 a.m. CT Sunday on ESPN. But folks around college football have already started making their predictions.
Here’s what the experts think about UA’s postseason landing spot.
ESPN– Rose Bowl and Cotton Bowl
Mark Schlabach had Alabama in the four-team playoff, facing Michigan in the Rose Bowl. Kyle Bonagura did not, instead pointing the Crimson Tide to the Cotton Bowl vs. Penn State.
ESPN’s CFP reporter Heather Dinich predicted the Tide will be in the top four.
The Athletic– Sugar Bowl
Mark one up for Alabama in the playoff. The Athletic has the Crimson Tide as the No. 3 seed.
That projection has UA facing off with Washington in the Sugar Bowl. The other matchup in the prediction was Michigan as the No. 1 seed, facing Florida State in the Rose Bowl.
CBS– Possible playoff game
Jerry Palm of CBS Sports didn’t guarantee a playoff spot for the Crimson Tide. He noted that UA needs the committee to either exclude Texas, which beat Alabama earlier this season, or an undefeated ACC champion in Florida State.
247Sports– Cotton Bowl
Brad Crawford placed Alabama outside the playoff picture. He instead projected that the Crimson Tide will have a compelling matchup with Oregon in Texas.
The Ducks fell to Washington Friday in the Pac-12 title game.
Brett McMurphy– Rose Bowl
The Action Network’s Brett McMurphy had the Crimson Tide in his top four, heading to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl. McMurphy predicted Alabama will be the No. 4 seed in the playoff, facing Michigan.
McMurphy had Washington playing Texas in the Sugar Bowl.
