Bowen Yang’s George Santos on SNL: ‘I’m sort of the real Bo Jackson’

George knows Bo, at least that’s the way “Saturday Night Live” framed an appearance by “George Santos” during the show’s cold open this past weekend wherein they referenced former Auburn superstar Bo Jackson.

The real Santos has admitted to lying about his heritage, education and professional career, per The Associated Press. In the “SNL” sketch, Yang’s Santos embellishes his list of athletic accomplishments.

During a parody of the popular football pregame show, Fox NFL Sunday analysts interviewed new correspondent and recently elected New York Rep. George Santos, played by Bowen Yang.

James Austin Johnson’s Jimmy Johnson went first, which led to the Bo Jackson line.

“Now, George, first of all, congrats on an amazing career,” he said. “I didn’t even know he played football, but I’m seeing here that you were the first player to lead the league in passing and rushing?”

“That’s correct,” Santos replied. I’m sort of the real Bo Jackson. And I’m proud to be the first African American quarterback to ever dunk a football.”

When asked where he played his college ball again, Santos replied, “The University of College.”

The sketch marked one of two Alabama references during the episode hosted by Aubrey Plaza (with musical guest Sam Smith). During the “Weekend Update” segment, Amy Poehler appeared to crack a joke about civil rights icon Rosa Parks.
