Body recovered after tugboat capsizes on Alabama River
One body was reportedly recovered after a tugboat capsized on the Alabama River, according to officials.
The U.S. Coast Guard said they were notified of an accident involving a vessel about 4:40 p.m. Saturday.
The Coast Guard dispatched a Jayhawk helicopter to assist in the search for victims/survivors from the 27-foot tugboat, which had capsized near the river’s mile marker 27.
Although details were few from the agencies involved, it appears the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and Daphne Search and Rescue recovered a body. The Coast Guard directed questions regarding the recovery or rescue of tugboat personnel to ALEA.
ALEA confirmed a recovery, but directed questions about the victim(s) to Daphne Search and Rescue.
Attempts to reach Daphne Search and Rescue, an all-volunteer group, were unsuccessful.
