An investigation is underway after a body was found on Interstate 59/20 in Birmingham.

The discovery was made shortly before 7 a.m. Friday near the Ensley Avenue exit. The body is just feet off the travel lanes.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced the person dead on the scene.

Officers and investigators are at the location. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office is en route.

Authorities said it’s too soon to tell how he died or if any foul play is involved.

Two lanes are closed but traffic is still moving.
