Body found in Tuscaloosa County creek presumed to be missing male: Sheriff
A body found Tuesday in Hurricane Creek is presumed to be a male reported missing a week ago in Tuscaloosa County, authorities said.
The Tuscaloosa County sheriff’s office has been searching the Cottondale area for Steven Cieroke over the last week, said Cpt. Jack Kennedy of the office’s Violent Crimes Unit.
Cieroke was last reported by his family leaving his home to walk in a wooded area, Kennedy said.
The search for Cieroke has involved deputies on foot along with drones, helicopter and K-9 units.
On Tuesday afternoon, a deceased person was found in the Cottondale area, in Hurricane Creek, said Kennedy.
The person is “presumed to be” Cieroke, said Kennedy, although the male’s identity and cause of death will have to be confirmed by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
