Body found in search for Sequoia Samuels, 4: Mother, boyfriend arrested, Memphis police say
Memphis police have arrested the mother of a four-year-old, and the mother’s boyfriend, following the discovery of what is believed to be the body of her child Thursday night.
Police Chief C.J. Davis announced that a search has been suspended for Sequoia Samuels, 4, after police found her remains near the apartment where the child lived with her family.
Brittany Jackson, the child’s mother, has been charged with aggravated child neglect, abuse of a corpse and false offense report.
Jaylon Hobson has been charged with a false offense report as well.
The investigation is continuing. Memphis police issued an endangered child alert Thursday and began what was termed a “relentless effort” to find her.
“This has been an emotional time for our employees and our community as we worked relentlessly together to find her,” Davis said. “We are beyond heartbroken this morning and are praying for strength for everyone involved as we investigate this tragic loss.”
News Channel 3 reported that detectives said the child, who had a feeding tube on the left side of her stomach, was captured on a nearby doorbell camera walking the streets alone at around 3 a.m.
Her mother reportedly called the police around 6:30 a.m. when she discovered her baby girl was missing.
