Sheffield police are investigating after a body was found in a car that exploded in Sheffield Sunday afternoon.

WAAY is reporting the incident happened at about 4 p.m. in the 800 block of South Columbia Avenue.

Police say neighbors called officers to a vehicle on fire.

Just as they arrived and began an investigation, the car exploded.

After the fire was extinguished, police found a body in the car’s backseat.

No information has been released yet on the identity of the body.
