If UAB can string together a pair of wins and capture its first road victory of the season while needing to win its remaining three games to reach bowl eligibility.

THREE THINGS TO LOOK FOR

1. One. Jermaine “Skull” Brown Jr. is 59 yards shy of setting UAB’s career record for all-purpose yardage and could accomplish the feat in the first half against Navy. The senior running back has 4,612 all-purpose yards for his career and ranks fifth in rushing yards (2,754) and fourth in rushing touchdowns (27).

2. Hanger 18. Jacob Zeno is coming off a career outing, where he set the UAB single-game record against an FBS opponent with 484 passing yards and five touchdowns, and should have no problems increasing those numbers in facing Navy’s 91st-ranked passing defense (239.2 ypg). The junior has passed for 2,389 yards, 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions, ranking third nationally in completions per game (27.3), fourth in completion rate (75.4 percent) and 10th in passing yards per game (298.6), and 25 completions away from setting the UAB single-season record.

3. The Dogs of War. Although Navy has as many wins as UAB this season, the Blazers draw the short straw of facing the Midshipmen on Veterans Day. However, defensive lineman Tyrique Howard should provide excellent leadership for his unit after serving two years in the Army. Although he did not attend West Point, home of the Army football team, Howard would like to bring home a victory for his old Army buddies.

KEY MATCHUP

UAB’s defensive front vs Navy’s triple-option attack: The Blazers have been downright awful against the run this season, ranking 124th in the nation in rushing defense (200 ypg), but the triple-option offers a different challenge and allows UAB to place more men in the box and on the edge in an effort to contain Navy’s 19-ranked rushing offense (197.5 ypg). Additionally, UAB’s defensive line averages 25 pounds more than the Midshipmen offensive line.
