Black bear cub spotted in Tuscaloosa, city leader urges people to keep an eye on pets

Tuscaloosa City Council President Kip Tyner has asked residents to use caution after a black bear sighting in the city.

In an Aug. 2 post on Facebook, Tyner posted a screenshot from a garage camera of a black bear cub spotted in the Oak Chase neighborhood.

Tyner said the incident, according to The Alabama Wildlife Department, may be the first black bear confirmed in Tuscaloosa.

In the post, Tyner said the bear’s footprints were being tracked and asked neighborhood residents to keep an eye out for outdoor pets.

Tyner said he feels “confident the state wildlife professionals are the best to handle this – Just keep a extra eye out for your outdoor pets if you live near this neighborhood.”
