Birmingham’s Market at Pepper Place making changes to cope with construction
The Market at Pepper Place is making plans to deal with construction in anticipation of Saturday’s opening.
City-wide construction projects are affecting the area around Second Avenue South, so the outdoor market has announced contingency measures.
Once the project is finished, the market should see wider and repaved sidewalks, four-way stops at every intersection, repaved roads, green spaces, flower planters, bike lanes, and better drainage to recycle rainwater.
Organizers say the market layout will be affected “week to week.”
Visitors will notice the absence of trees along 29th Street South. However, it’s only temporary. The old trees were removed due to poor root health. New ones will be replanted soon.
Work by Taylor & Miree Construction is also ongoing to install new sidewalks. This is not expected to affect the market layout much this Saturday. A market map can be found here.
“We’re hopeful the Pepper Place area will be completed within the next few weeks,” an announcement at the Market’s Facebook page states.
