Birmingham’s Capstone Building continues work on $192 million Memphis project
Birmingham’s Capstone Building Corp. recently completed the fourth phase of a Memphis redevelopment project, as well as starting work on the next leg of the project.
The South City Redevelopment, on South Danny Thomas Boulevard, is a $192 million project backed by a public-private partnership featuring several partners, including the City of Memphis, the Tennessee Housing Development Agency, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and others.
LRK is the architect, McCormack Baron Salazar is the developer, and the Memphis Housing Authority is the project sponsor. Work began last September on Phase V, which is scheduled to be completed in December.
South City Phase IV is a 138-unit, 15-building, garden-style apartment and townhouse project, with one to three-bedroom units.
Brandon Loyd, vice president of project management at Capstone Building, said the South City redevelopment is ”revitalizing the community providing Memphis residents an affordable, state-of-the-art housing option.”
