Birmingham’s The Sanders Trust begins work on Ohio rehab hospital

Birmingham’s The Sanders Trust has begun work on a 66,000-square-foot rehabilitation hospital in Ohio.

Mercy Health Youngstown Rehabilitation Hospital, located in Youngstown, will be located on Belmont Avenue.

The project is a joint venture between Lifepoint Rehabilitation, a business unit of Tennessee-based Lifepoint Health, and Mercy Health of Ohio. The Sanders Trust, a healthcare real estate investment and development company, is developing the project with designs by Earl Swensson Architects of Nashville. Massaro Corp. of Pittsburgh is the general contractor.

The hospital will include 60 beds and will focus on acute rehabilitation. Services will be offered for stroke and traumatic brain injury patients, and for those suffering from spinal cord injuries, complex neurological disorders, orthopedic conditions, multiple trauma, amputation and other injuries or conditions.

Sanders Trust CEO Rance Sanders said the hospital will “serve as a beacon for health and wellness and is a testament to improving the lives of the communities we serve.”
