Birmingham’s The Sanders Trust is the developer of a $48 million inpatient rehabilitation hospital that recently broke ground in Jacksonville, Fla.

Northwest Florida Rehabilitation Hospital, to be located on Jacksonville’s west side, will be a 60,500-square-foot hospital with 50 inpatient beds focusing on acute rehabilitation. It will treat patients suffering from stroke, traumatic brain or spinal cord injuries, complex neurological disorders and other conditions.

The Sanders Trust will work with Nashville architectural firm Earl Swensson and general contractor JE Dunn Construction of Kansas City, Mo.

The Birmingham-based firm develops and acquires medical office buildings, rehab and specialty hospitals, and other healthcare facilities nationwide, and has a portfolio of properties in 30 states.

Northwest Florida Rehabilitation Hospital will feature a therapeutic courtyard, and therapy gymnasiums equipped with augmented-reality balance training, therapy bionics and a full-body exoskeleton.

The facility will be operated by Lifepoint Rehabilitation, a business unit of Lifepoint Health.
