Tickets will go on sale May 16 for Birmingham’s Sloss Tech, which is now scheduled for Aug. 4 at the Lyric Theatre.

The tech startup and entrepreneurial celebration, which packed out Birmingham’s Lyric Theatre for four years, had been on ice since the pandemic. An earlier date in June was scrubbed due to scheduling conflicts.

TechBirmingham and Telegraph Creative announced the new date this morning. Breakout sessions are also scheduled for Sidewalk Film Center and Cinema, and other venues nearby.

Devon Townsend chief product officer and co-founder of Cameo, will be one of the keynote speakers. Cameo provides personalized videos from thousands of celebrities and sports stars for a fee.

The conference organizers are working with Endeavor, the global community for high-growth entrepreneurs, to bring other speakers, who will be announced later.

Sloss Tech in its first four years featured panel discussions, interviews, and presentations of products, all highlighting startups and entrepreneurship in the Southeast. Among previous guests were Shipt and Landing founder Bill Smith, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, former Chief Brand Officer of Uber Bozoma Saint John, podcaster Payne Lindsey and filmmaker Casey Neistat.

This year will also see Sloss Tech debut “Next in Tech,” which will offer a limited number of complimentary tickets to students and early tech professionals, with an emphasis on HBCU-affiliated individuals. Next in Tech recipients will be accepted by application on a rolling basis, organizers said.

“There isn’t a week that goes by where someone doesn’t ask when we’re bringing back Sloss Tech,” TechBirmingham CEO Deontée Gordon said in an announcement. “There has been so much growth in Birmingham’s entrepreneurial and tech communities over the last few years. Now it’s time to take it to another level. This year’s Sloss Tech is going to be a reflection of how far we’ve come and set the stage for where we’re going.”

Topics promised for discussion will be AI, biotech, Extended Reality (XR), sports tech and more.

The City of Birmingham will be an official community partner and host this year’s conference. Mayor Randall Woodfin said events like Sloss Tech “keep us in the forefront of the conversation.”

“From training and recruitment to new innovations, we’re positioning ourselves as leaders in the tech space. We look forward to welcoming the industry’s best minds to the Magic City,” he said.

Sloss Tech will be produced by LRY Media Group, a global agency for experiential production that also served as curators of the 2022 World Games Birmingham Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
