Birmingham Walmart shooting: 1 taken to UAB Hospital, at least 1 in custody
Birmingham police are on the scene of a shooting inside a Birmingham Walmart.
The shooting happened at 1:30 p.m. at the store off Parkway East.
The victim, a male who was shot in the stomach, was transported to UAB Hospital. His condition is said to be life-threatening.
According to police radio communications, a male and female ran from the store. At least one person is in custody.
A witness says the shooting happened just inside the front door on the pharmacy side of Walmart.
The witness said she only heard one shot and saw an officer capture the possible male suspect at gunpoint right outside.
The victim was a customer, not an employee, said those on the scene.
The witness said she went into the store after the shooting and saw the victim on the floor, bleeding from the stomach. He was conscious, she said.
It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting.
