Birmingham Squadron signs former Alabama center

The Birmingham Squadron have signed former Alabama center Daniel Giddens, the NBA G League team announced on Tuesday.

After beginning his college career at Ohio State, the 6-foot-11 Giddens played for the Crimson Tide during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. Giddens averaged 3.6 points and 2.9 rebounds in 48 games with Alabama.

Giddens played his final college season with Vermont in 2019-20. He has played professionally in Switzerland and Japan since leaving college.

The Squadron starts a three-game road trip on Friday, when Birmingham visits the Austin Spurs. The Squadron’s next game in Birmingham is at 11:30 a.m. CST Dec. 8, when the Rio Grande Valley Vipers visit the Legacy Arena.

Giddens joins former Hoover High School and UAB standout Trey Jemison and Liam Robbins as the centers on the Birmingham roster.

At 4-2, the Squadron are tied with the Vipers for the South’s top spot in the Showcase Cup standings.
