Birmingham spring sports: Vestavia Hills downs Hoover in girls soccer top 10 game
Vestavia Hills girls soccer beat fifth-ranked Hoover 1-0 in its only game last week during Birmingham area spring sports action.
Lola McMillian scored the game-winning goal on an assist from Anna Towry for the second-ranked Rebels (11-2).
The defense recorded a shutout with Rosemary Gill in goal.
Vestavia Hills has won four straight since a 3-2 loss to sixth-ranked Sparkman on Feb. 28 after the Rebels beat the Senators 1-0 earlier in the season. The other loss came in the season-opener to Chelsea, falling 1-0.
The Rebels also have wins over Class 7A top-ranked Oak Mountain 1-0, third-ranked Spain Park 6-2, ninth-ranked Auburn 2-1 and Class 4A second-ranked St. Michael 5-0.
Vestavia Hills hosts fourth-ranked Hewitt-Trussville on Tuesday and plays at Tuscaloosa County on Thursday.

Caleb Smith scored the lone goal against Hoover on an assist from Luke Jovanovich .
Julian Harrison scored a goal against Hewitt-Trussville while Gabe Capocci scored on an assist from Harrison Kilgore.
Fifth-ranked Chelsea (10-3-1) beat Gardendale 1-0 and Spain Park 7-1.
Max Wever scored a goal and Andrew Teixeira had an assist against Gardendale.
Wever and Kaleb Bass each scored 2 goals against Spain Park while Luke Miller, Teixeira and Parker Dean each scored a goal. Bass had 3 assists, Shon McKinney had 2, and Wever added an assist.
Vestavia Hills (8-6-2) won 3 games last week, beating Thompson 3-2 along with Georgia teams LaGrange 2-1 and Westminster 3-2, winning penalty kicks 3-1.
Parker Dennie scored 2 goals against Thompson, Alec Paraiso scored against LaGrange while Dennie and Paraiso each scored a goal against Westminster and goalkeeper Wyatt Long had three blocked penalty kicks.

Third-ranked Briarwood (11-1-2) beat Helena 3-2 and Pelham 1-0 last week.
Carson Tucker had 2 goals while Reece Frost had a goal and assist, Cam Harrington had a goal, Matthias Leib had 2 assists and Sawyer Felton had an assist.

Fourth-ranked Hewitt Trussville (13-4) was 2-1 last week with wins over Cullman 1-0 and Southside-Gadsden 7-3 and a loss Oxford 4-2.
Colby Durden pitched complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts against Cullman.
Sixth-ranked Vestavia Hills (12-4) was 2-2 last week, beating Spain Park 5-0 and Calera 8-1 and losing to Spain Park 6-4 and Chelsea 8-7.
Christopher Johnston batted .428 with 5 runs and 5 RBIs for the week while Jackson Harris hit .363 with 2 walks, 3 RBIs, a runs and was hit 4 times. Hudson Walburn batted .444 with a walk and2 RBIs and Grant Downey batted .500 with 2 walks, an RBI and 2 runs.
Aiden Black struck out 5 and allowed a hit in 4 2/3 innings while Jable Ramey gave up no earned runs and struck out 11 in 6 innings.

Against Fairfield, senior third baseman Cedric Massengale was 2-2 with 4 RBI’s, a double with 4 steals while Scott pitched a no hitter with 12 strikeouts along with a 2-for-2 game at the plate with 3 RBIs, a double and 3 steals.

Eighth-ranked John Carroll (9-6) won 4 games, beating Clay-Chalkville 11-5, Ramsay 12-0, Shades Valley 14-3 and Holtville 5-4.
Max Plaia was 2-for-3 with a double and 4 RBIs against Clay-Chalkville while Gabe Wilbur was 2-for-2 and struck out 8 in 4 innings pitched.
Noah Smith had a home run and 3 RBIs against Ramsay while Braxton Williams pitched a 5-inning no-hitter with 7 strikeouts.

Fifth-ranked Hoover (16-3) won 6 games last week, beating Vestavia Hills 7-1, Helena 10-8, Smiths Station 8-2, Cullman 9-6, Jasper 14-0 and Pleasant Valley 10-2.
Emily Sims pitched a perfect game against Jasper on Saturday in the Bucs round-robin tournament while Ki Davis hit .619 for the week and .667 in the tournament.
Kaitlyn Raines batted .571 with 2 doubles and 2 home runs and was 3-0 on the mound this week, throwing 17 2/3 innings with 20 strikeouts.
Bella Foran hit .455 with 2 home runs and 10 RBIs and Olivia Christian hit .545 with 2 home runs.
