Birmingham police warn parents after event flyer promotes âfightsâ in city âtakeoverâ
Birmingham police officials are denouncing a flyer circulating on social media that they say alludes to the possibility of a violent event in the city this weekend.
The “Bham City Walk Takeover” flyer has been circulating on social media this week. It doesn’t give a purpose for the event, but touts “police” and “fights.” The flyer lists a 3 p.m. start time for Saturday.
“Our main concern is the safety of our community members,’’ said department spokeswoman Sgt. LaQuitta Wade.
“The violence that is being promoted by this flyer is disturbing to everyone. Our priority is to keep everyone safe.”
BPD released this statement:
“The Birmingham Police Department is aware of the flyer for an unauthorized event circulating on social media.
“We do not condone this event or the violence that is alluded to on the flyer. We need parents to help us by not dropping their kids off at the listed location or any other location unattended without your supervision.
“Parents, we need your help to assist us in keeping your kids safe along with our community members. Officers will be ready to respond to any location for the safety of everyone.”
