A person was shot Monday night in downtown Birmingham, police said.

North Precinct officers received a call of a person shot in the 1800 block of Second Avenue North, just outside the McWane Center, around 8:20 p.m. Monday, according to police radio traffic.

The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to a police spokeswoman.

An officer at the scene said the victim was taken to a local hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel.

Police blocked about four downtown streets as they investigated the incident.
