Birmingham Parking Authority says they are working on predatory towing solution

The Birmingham Parking Authority (BPA) is working to develop a strategic plan which will address predatory towing in downtown, but also aims to “transform the parking experience in the downtown area, support economic development and meet the growing needs of businesses, workers and residents” the head of the agency said yesterday,

Although the full plan isn’t coming until next year, the part of the plan detailing a solution for predatory towing will likely come earlier according to BPA Executive Director and CEO Andre Davis and Birmingham City Councilor Darrell O’ Quinn.

O’Quinn acknowledged the public’s ongoing complaints about the issue at a press conference this week and said the city council is still actively reviewing Birmingham’s towing ordinance to find a solution.

The city has been reviewing the ordinance since March and City Council President Wardine Alexander previously said they were hoping to come to a solution by April or May.

In the meantime, drivers can expect a public hearing to be scheduled in the next few weeks where they can come and air their towing concerns, according to O’Quinn.
