Birmingham NeighborFest 2025: Free event on Saturday offers path to homeownership

GROWTH Homes and the City of Birmingham on Saturday will host NeighborFest, a free event aimed at fostering community and allowing residents to find paths toward home ownership.

The event, which will take place at Linn Park in downtown Birmingham, is scheduled to run between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. According to the city press release, the family-friendly event will feature live music, a kids zone, shopping, and food trucks.

At the heart of the event is the ‘Homeownership Village,’ which allows visitors to take meaningful steps toward buying a home, according to the press release. Experts will be on hand to answer questions, lead seminars and provide further counseling and assistance.

“I think a lot of folks just assume that they can’t afford to buy a house,” said Ed Gorman, Managing Director of GROWTH Homes. “With the right partners and the right ways of doing it and the right price for the houses, we can all work together to get folks into homes so they can have their piece of the American dream and secure their future.”

Organizations at the event include the Housing Authority Birmingham District, Neighborhood Housing Services, the Urban League and The Birmingham Realtist Association. Multiple other banks and community associations will also be in attendance to provide support.

“We hope many families and individuals will attend, gain valuable knowledge, and seize this opportunity,” Birmingham Mayor Randall L. Woodfin stated in the press release. “Homeownership is a powerful tool toward building wealth and securing a brighter future.”

Gorman added that they are expecting a festive atmosphere. “This is for anyone across the economic spectrum. It’s really for as many folks as we can benefit to find home ownership and also to help build the communities that we’re operating in.”

“What are you going to do on a Saturday morning that’s more important than figuring out your financial future? We can help you do that,” Gorman said.
