Birmingham Museum of Art to reopen on-site restaurant

It’s been nearly four years since patrons could have a meal from the on-site cafe at the Birmingham Museum of Art. The BMA shuttered Oscar’s, its longtime museum restaurant, in 2020 after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, the institution is set to reopen the cafe with a new partner. The BMA will collaborate with Juniper, the gin-focused cocktail bar and restaurant in Forestdale to bring an iteration of Juniper to the museum. The restaurant will offer lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday, according to a post on Juniper’s Instagram account.

Blake Posey and Ali Randall opened Juniper in 2021 in the former space at Little Savannah at 3811 Clairmont Ave S in Birmingham. The cocktail bar’s beverage program boats a series of gin-based cocktails, including a portion of the menu devoted specifically to the classic Gin and Tonic, where patrons can select a choice of four gins to pair with different flavors of tonic water.

The kitchen at Juniper, helmed by visual artist and chef Thyme Randle, features a rotating menu of small plates, entrees, and desserts, including duck-fat fries, hearts of palm, and blueberry crème brûlée.
