Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin proposes; she said yes

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin is getting married.

Woodfin said he proposed last night to Kendra Morris, who he has been dating since 2021.

“I wanted to do something special, so I had a triple-surprise for her,” Woodfin told AL.com. “She had no clue. I re-created our first date.”

Their first date was in summer of 2021, when Woodfin met Morris for a drink at Paper Doll cocktail bar in downtown Birmingham.

“We had a drink at Paper Doll, and it turned into an extended conversation, a long time,” Woodfin said. “We got hungry. We went for Mexican. We walked down to El Barrio to eat dinner. Our first outing over a drink turned into dinner, which turned into a kiss. We’ve been dating ever since.”

So Woodfin took Morris back to the Paper Doll and to El Barrio on Sunday to propose. Afterwards, they had a “She Said Yes” party with his extended family and hers at House of Found Objects, next to El Barrio.

Morris is an owner and real estate broker at Iron City Premier Realty.

Woodfin will also become a father, since Morris has two sons, Aubrey, 15, and Mason, 9.

“They are amazing young boys,” Woodfin said. “They really are – chill, respectful and kind, honorable, smart. They love their mom.”

Morris is a terrific mother, he said.

“I’ve watched them and how they are, and how she is as a mother in building their character and just who they are,” Woodfin said.

“I, as Randall, not as mayor, appreciate my fiance’s motherhood, and how she shaped the character of her two sons,” he said. “I look forward to our blended family, loving her, loving the boys, expanding our family and being a good husband and being a good father.”

Efforts to reach Morris for comment were unsuccessful, and Woodfin did not help with that.

“I’ve got to protect her a little bit,” he said.

The wedding has yet to be planned.

“No date set,” Woodfin said. “To be determined.”
