Birmingham man shot to death on his front porch identified
A man who was gunned down on his front porch Friday afternoon in the Fountain Heights community has been identified.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said George Williams, Jr., 63, of Birmingham, was the victim of a shooting Friday at 3:02 p.m. in the 1500 block of 19th Street North.
Williams, police said Friday, was “completely innocent, sitting on his front porch, enjoying the day” when gunfire erupted.
Police said a friend or family member of the victim was involved in an argument with a group of people at a different location.
The suspects, according to Officer Truman Fitzgerald, followed the person with whom they are arguing to the North Birmingham house and opened fire.
The deadly shooting was Birmingham’s third in less than 24 hours and one of two to take place Friday afternoon.
