Birmingham man shot and killed on 9th Street West
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation after a man was found shot to death inside a car on Friday.
Demarco Cortez Thomas, 35, of Birmingham, also known as, Geremy Demarco Sistrunk, was shot and killed, according to statement from Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald, Assistant Public Information Officer/Public Information Division.
West Precinct officers were dispatched about 3:30 p.m. to a report of Shots Fired in the 400 Block of 9th Street West.
Officers were then received an update that a black SUV had crashed near the intersection.
When officers arrived on the scene they observed the wrecked vehicle. Upon further investigation, officers observed the victim inside suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived and pronounced the victim deceased.
Authorities say details are limited in this investigation and there is no one in custody.
This is Birmingham’s 58th murder investigation of 2024 with 5 justifiable death rulings, according to the statement from police.
