Birmingham man killed in shooting outside Texas nightclub

A Birmingham man was killed in a weekend shooting near a Texas nightclub.

James Sanders, 29, was vacationing in Houston with his girlfriend when the deadly shooting happened about 2:10 a.m. Sunday in Midtown.

Houston patrol officers responded to a shooting call in a parking lot of a business at 2601 San Jacinto Street and found Sanders unresponsive. HPD spokesman John Cannon, and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences said Sanders sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body.

Guy Baham, 24, is charged with murder, police announced Wednesday.

Officers learned a disturbance between Sanders and Baham escalated into gunfire.

Baham fired multiple shots at Sanders, striking him. Sanders’ girlfriend, 40, retrieved a firearm and fired multiple rounds at Baham, who fled the scene in a light-colored Toyota Camry with potential damage from bullet holes.

Officers detained Sanders’ girlfriend at the scene. She has not been charged.

Investigators learned Baham arrived at an area hospital in a Toyota Camry with several visible bullet holes. He had sustained a gunshot wound.

Baham was treated for his wounds, subsequently charged and booked into jail for his role in the incident, Cannon said.
