A Birmingham man is charged in the September shooting death of a man in Northport.

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit on Tuesday afternoon announced the arrest of 40-year-old Antwaun Dewayne Pledger-Payton. He was taken into custody earlier in the day.

The deadly shooting happened at 7:15 p.m. on Sept. 24 in the 3900 block of Northwood Lake Drive West.

Killed was 24-year-old Demetrius Damon Windham Jr.

A motive has not been disclosed. Authorities previously said they believe the victim was targeted.

Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Capt. Jack Kennedy said investigators are still searching for other possible suspects.

Pledger-Payton is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail without bond under Aniah’s Law.
