Birmingham man charged in Center Point shooting that hurt 2, including 18-year-old who is critical
A suspect has been charged with attempted murder in a Sunday shooting in east Jefferson County that wounded two people, one of them critically.
De’Aquinez Bell, 25, of Birmingham, is charged with attempted murder, Jefferson County sheriff’s officials announced Tuesday.
Bell was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 12:44 p.m. Monday. His bond is set at $60,000.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 4:45 p.m. to Summit Ridge Apartments on Haversham Drive to a report of a person shot.
When deputies and Center Point Fire and Rescue medics arrived, they found a 29-year-old woman with a gunshot wound. She was reportedly shot in the pelvis.
The woman was taken by ambulance to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.
Sheriff’s spokesman Henry Irby said her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Deputies learned an 18-year-old male with a gunshot wound also had been taken by private vehicle to UAB Hospital.
Authorities initially said his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, but Irby said Tuesday that he is in critical condition.
Deputies initially issued an emergency call for all available assistance but the reason for the alert was not immediately clear. Additional details surrounding the shooting have not been released.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call sheriff’s investigators at 205-325-1450 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
