A Birmingham man was killed, and a woman injured, in a fiery crash Wednesday in St. Clair County.

The wreck happened at 2:30 p.m. on Kelly Creek Road near McCrory Road. That location is about six miles north of Moody.

Alabama State Troopers said 85-year-old Ivey L. Mason was driving a Jeep Cherokee that left the road, struck a tree, and caught fire.

Mason was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene, said Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey.

His passenger, 83-year-old Sharon B. Mason, was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham. The extent of her injuries was not disclosed.

The investigation is ongoing by troopers.
