Birmingham fire station struck by gunfire as shootout injures 1 man

A Birmingham fire station was struck by gunfire Wednesday night as police two groups of people shot at each other, leaving one man injured.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald gave this account:

Just before midnight, East Precinct officers on patrol in the 4000 block of 40th Place North heard gunshots.

Police learned a man showed up at a nearby Circle K at 1700 Tallapoosa Street with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The Real Time Crime Center pinpointed where the gunfire originated and learned two groups of people had been shooting at each other.

Birmingham Fire Station 23 was struck by bullets. No firefighters were injured and police say the station was not targeted.
