Birmingham BOLD groups use funding to help mothers and reduce gun violence

In the first few months of 2023 eight groups in Birmingham have been able to provide support to single mothers and their goals, offer training programs to reduce gun violence, and provide IT workforce training for underemployed adults and youth among many other things.

This was all made possible through Birmingham’s Building Opportunities for Lasting Development (BOLD) funding program which aims to support economic development in the city according to the Department of Innovation and Economic Opportunity.

In December, the city announced that $850,000 had been divided among the chosen groups.

Doula training nonprofit Birthwell Partners said their $121,806 in BOLD funding would be used to “train new doulas and employ doulas on a contract basis to provide birth doula services to low resource families from across Birmingham.”
